Sinatra, Davis, and Martin announced a 29-date tour called Together Again in December 1987. At the press conference to announce the tour, Martin joked about calling it off, and Sinatra rebuked a reporter for using the term "Rat Pack", referring to it as "that stupid phrase".
Sinatra, always keen to cultivate friendships with the (ahem) powerful, took to calling his crew the "Jack Pack" when Kennedy was among them. In the late '50s and into the campaign year of 1960 , the Rat Pack backed Kennedy as he campaigned for the Presidency, and supported him initially after the election.
The Rat Pack was an informal group of entertainers, the second iteration of which ultimately made movies and appeared together in Las Vegas casino venues. They originated as a group of A-list show business friends who met casually at the Los Angeles home of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. The Rat Pack concert, called The Frank Sinatra Spectacular, was broadcast live via satellite to numerous movie theaters across America. The album September of My Years was released September 1965, and went on to win the Grammy Award for best album of the year. The Bogart Rat Pack were a group of drinking buddies that included the top actors of the day, such as Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Errol Flynn. Iconic singers Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, and Nat “King” Cole joined as well. After Humphrey Bogart’s death, the original group disbanded.
